Boxing Day

There are a few theories how Boxing Day came about, what do you think? The church charity boxes sounds feasible.

I believe it's something to do with the servants' day off in Victorian times

A Genealogist will come along shortly, I imagine, and explain in depth

Just had a quick google Rachel, and it looks like you're probably right. Apparently it was when servants were going home to visit their families and their employers used to give them a box of goodies to take with them - hence 'Boxing Day.
I must admit I thought it was something to do with sport though, as its always been a big sports day in the UK hasn't it.

Mups that is what I was told by my great Aunt who was in service in a 'big house'
The 'goodies' were 'left overs' .
