Government's 'workfare' = slave labour!!!

Despite lavish promises that unemployed 'volunteers' would gain proper employment, the government's 'workfare' schemes are an abject failure!!!

These government schemes never work, incompetence and nepotism usually win the day.

Strange then that unemployment stands at its lowest since May 2008 don't you think.

Re: Government's 'workfare' = slave labour!!!

Thousands of jobless claimants were made to carry out unpaid work such as clearing up litter and graffiti in their local areas for up to six months in return for their benefits under the Help to Work scheme.
I think all fit unemployed people should have to do some form of community volunteering work to qualify for benefits.
It isn't doing their health or self esteem much good sitting at home idle.

I agree there is nothing to be gained from sitting at home when unemployed, any sort of work will help to maintain paersonal fitness and work ethic ready for employment in some form at some future time. An excellent idea on so many levels.

The problem is looking for work is a full time job in its self. Take time for these schemes unless there is employment at the end of it you are really extending the period the person is out of work.

Worked with a few folks over the years who never really grasped the "Ethic".

Nothing to stop you looking for work at the same time Julie, you can still check out the sits vac and apply for interviews I was self employed virtually all of my working life and was always on the lookout for a better job even though I already had one....

It doesn't quite work like that now benefit claimants have to have a provable search history some are being required to apply for 30 plus jobs a week. That takes some dedication.
