Oh the memories !

This was our local town in Kenya. I once got "arrested" whilst there. I was buying tomatoes from one of the stalls when two big policemen came, each took one of my arms and told me I had to go with them. The police station was just across the road and waiting for me there was the boss man. He said he had seen me shopping but that I never went to see him and take tea with him, so he sent his policemen to fetch me I was allowed to leave 2 hours later after tea and a tour of the police station (well what passes for a police station in Ukunda), quite an experience

No he wasnīt a friend Mups, although I knew who he was of course, you very soon get to know who is who in these communities. He was just a bit miffed that I never called in for tea and a chat when I was in Ukunda. There is only one road into Ukunda from where we lived and so every person and every vehicle coming along that road could be seen from the police station. He was more a friend of Mr Clumsy who almost always called in to see him, have a beer and a game of dominoes

I quite miss it sometimes toffee, just the complete difference from life in Europe, there simply is no comparison is there? Mind you there's an awful lot I don't miss too ......telephone lines being cut down to use for clothes lines in the local village, the morning snake hunt in the garden, the constant power cuts, sometimes for days on end, having to go to Likoni and on the ferry to Mombasa, Mr Clumsy always going down with various strains of malaria, oh many things, but I do miss the wildlife and I miss the friendly chats with the people on the wood carving stalls etc.
