Batteries catching fire ! ?

Heard on the radio that a fire was started by batteries being left on a table
What's that all about - never heard this one before .............

They can explode in heat and/or extreme pressure

Patsy I understand it is the lithium batteries which can cause a problem and particularly poor quality cheap imports.

That is why people need to be educated about remote controls: don't let them fall down inside sofas/furniture, as they can get too warm and catch fire. I'm always careful about keeping my remotes on the table.

New toy for Christmas called the Wheel Scooter which takes the place of walking, recently caught fire when the batteries over heated.

That is true painter. In fact, over here, they are recalling most of them because of this.

And they've been classed as illegal to use on our pavements, anyway, so I don't know why they're still being sold.

There was a progam on the tele about this a couple of weeks ago, apparently cheap fakes of good makes are most dangerous, but how to tell the difference I'm not sure....

Yes thanks all - cheap batteries more likely I think, it shocked me as they were out in the open on a table
