Beggars

This afternoon my friend and I sat outside a café having lunch and just watching people come and go at one of the supermarkets nearby. Always there are the usual beggars outside the supermarket, some of them are quite aggressive but as fast as the police move them on they return. We've seen them "change shifts" on many occasions.

The one we were watching this afternoon was making good money. We sat for an hour and a half and during that time we saw at least 35 people give him the euro from the shopping cart. The supermarkets are open from 9,30 a.m (some earlier) until 9 or 10 p.m. The beggars are there all day every day, there are hundreds of people go into the supermarkets each day. The beggars obviously make a very good living indeed, no wonder they don't look for work !

Re: Beggars

Yes many of these so called beggars have very nice houses and cars. I think it should be made illegal to give these beggars money. Make them get off their arse and work for a living.😠

Re: Beggars

It was illegal in this country wasn't it? I had never seen a beggar as such until the early 90's.

Re: Beggars

Over here we are advised not to give money, instead its suggested you buy a hot drink and sandwich, some have pets ,soo get a tin of dog meat. As you say a lot have good homes/cars and have no real reason to beg

Re: Beggars

A friend of mine, who is not very well off, gave his gloves to a beggar in the town centre last Winter. On his way home he called into a High Street pub near his bus stop for a pint, only to spot said beggar getting a taxi home from the rank across the road!

Re: Beggars

Are beggars the same as tramps the same as homeless??
Im sure there are lots of people out on the streets who deserve some kindness and a whole heap of care...I think to get them a sandwich and food for their pet if they have one is a lovely gesture to do..

Re: Beggars

Many of the young "homeless people" are not homeless at all. They choose to be homeless rather than go back to their parents for a wide variety of reasons.

Re: Beggars

The ones who hang around the supermarkets here are mostly Romanians, although one who asked us for money had a Yorkshire accent and good English, we asked where he came from he said he was Pakistani but from Bradford, when we asked what he was doing in Spain his reply was
"too f......g cold in Bradford" !
