The man at the door. My version

A married couple had just got to sleep when there was a loud knocking on the front door. They both woke up and the wife said "go see who it is at this time of night"
so the man went down and opened the front door and there was this guy drunk asking for a push. The man shut the door and went back to bed.

His wife asked who it was and he told her. So she said " don't you remember when our car broke down one night and how grateful a local came and helped us?"

"Oh yes I had forgotten" so he went back downstairs opened the front door and nobody there. He looked up and down the street ,still no one in sight.
So he called out " the man who wanted a push where are you?"

A voice replied "I am over here on the swing "
