Shepherds Pie or Cottage Pie

Autumn is the time for winter favourites to make their appearance and what is more hearty than that old comfort dish Shepherds Pie or Cottage Pie.

Although the recipe is a basic one, most of us add that little secret extra . I add kidney to the mince to give it an added flavour.

Whats your secret

I add sweet chilli sauce and lots of garlic and onions.

I generally have Cottage pie as I don't cook a lot of Lamb.

Ooooohhh yes, a lovely old rib-sticker staple!!! I make my own and add slices of cheese on top of the mash and put it under the grill to melt the cheese and brown the potoatoes.

We are having cottage pie for dinner tonight. I usually fry off the beef mince add mixed veg and gravy thickening top with creamed potatoes with milk and butter and then cover with cheese and bake until brown and crispy.

I add a pinch of mild chilli powder to the meat and mix grated cheese into the mashed potato.
