Re: Ballet Dancing

No I never did ballet but my 8 year old granddaughter does ballet and tap (also ballroom dancing and gymnastics) .... the rule now is that they do not do ballet pointe until/unless they are good enough to join say, the Royal Ballet School, as the pointe ballet shoes cause damage to the toes and feet ... Grace's teacher is proof of this .... and she also suffers badly with her knees

I often take Grace to her class and although it is lovely to see her dance it is the longest 45 minutes of my week !!!

Re: Ballet Dancing

Interesting insight there Myrtle
Yep must play havoc with hips too, I was hoping someone would know of a dancer to see just the problems they do suffer later in life ................

Good job because there wouldn't have been any money for ballet lessons .

Re: Ballet Dancing

Gymnastics was my choice but but the age of 9 I was told by a rather nasty teacher that I was too big..
She said it in a way that was intended to hurt..

So I turned my hand to sports and drama and excelled there instead!

Re: Ballet Dancing

I never did ballet myself but I have been to watch many ballets and even saw Rudolph Nureyev dance. They put in at least as much training as any good athlete so I have great admiration for them.

Re: Ballet Dancing

How can one say this without being rude?? I knew a young lady who had very flexible legs. The last time we talked she was a grandmother and she had children in the dance/music business
