"German Shepherd dog, Jerry, caught a pet canary while walking in woods near his home in Ilkeston, Derbyshire.
He kept it safe by holding it gently in his jaws.
Jerry's owner, Jenny Hopper, advertised the canary in the local paper and the bird was claimed within a week."
Some of us do Pumice, but as the post was about a dog and they are not quite the problem cats are with birds it is just a lovely thread amongst all the negativity.
(Nervously answers solo as she runs away when I post )
Yes cats can carry gently but they usually only do it to kittens or to animals they wish to play with before they kill them in my experience. Our late cats could carry live mice and rats very gently until they got them home then all hell would break loose as they became demonic killers.
Oh how warm and fuzzy. All this joy about one bird.
Nobody gives a rat's that cats torture and kill millions of them every single day !
Who's upset you this morning, Mr.Grumpy?
What the 'eck has cats killing things got to do with the German Shepherd Dog?
It's about one beautiful gentle DOG, one probably very proud owner, one little life saved, and also happy bird owners to find their pet again. So a little more than "joy about one bird."
I can remember when German Shepherds were considered nasty dogs, but it is often down to how they are trained by their owners, as with most pets. I think they are beautiful dogs and I would be very proud if Jerry was mine. What a lovely story!
As you say Twink, they can be wonderful dogs in the right hands. They are very loving and loyal.
Have a look on my profile page if you have a minute, and see some of the beauties I used to have, I adored them. Only ever had one dodgy one in nearly 30 years, she was fine with me but not trustworthy with strangers.
