Wood burning smoke

My nearby neighbours have a wood burning stove and its alight 24/7 its never out! I like my window open at night but the smoke tends to come into the room and its an awful smell. My question is, is wood smoke harmful?

I know how you feel about this - been through it meself and it affected me ! So must be awful for you, in my case it was just lighting fires in the garden although some involved wood
I would check with the environment department at the Council - see what they have to say ..............

Re: Wood burning smoke

I see people down the road had the same problem so the wood burning family fitted a sort of baffle to the top of the chimney which helped dissipate the smoke, it hasn't cured the problem completely but it's much much better I am told. Wonder if that's possible in your case ?

Re: Wood burning smoke

I like the smell of wood burning. My first wife likes to have our wood burner on on a winter's evening. You can smell it outside, but there have been no complaints from neighbours. I suppose it's all a matter of location. If someone's bedroom chimney is in the wrong place related to a neighbour's chimney, and if the wind is in the wrong direction, it occurs to me that the most effective strategy would be to close the window!

Having a cigar/pipe smoker down stairs here who has fitted an extractor fan to get fumes out of their flat where they head straight into our living room window I concur shutting the window is an answer but it's most annoying we cannot enjoy fresh air because of someone else's fumes. I am sure it must be just as annoying with wood smoke.
