Goodbye Wink

A friend of ours who was in hospital with a resurgence of his prostrate problem died last night.

We are in shock as he was - apparently - out of the critical category and improving all the time, according to his wife.

We are feeling the usual array of emotions in these cases, as you can imagine, but the main thought is something that I think we all probably have at such times - just how long have we got?

Our friend, Colin by name but always known as Wink had quite a range of problems, the main one being acute agoraphobia.

A walk in the park was out of the question for Wink.

The odd thing for me is that I have known three people like this and, after a period of incarceration, I felt the same for several months.

I am fine now but it is truly frightening yet my friend coped with it every day of his life.

I now feel proud and honoured to have known him and I do mourn his passing. stevmk2

So sorry Steve it's a huge shock even when expected so this must have been enormous for you all. RIP Wink and take care of yourselves and treat yourselves with kindness at this terrible time.

Re: Goodbye Wink

I am touched by the responses because I wrote my post to express how I felt, but to nobody in particular.

I felt I needed to do that.

Thank You. stevmk2

Re: Goodbye Wink

Well the funeral's next Wednesday and he is being buried; always upsets me far more than any cremation ever does, including my Dad.

I just don't like funerals.

Apparently it was his wish to be buried next to his brother, who died very suddenly in 1991 aged only 42.

Wink reserved the space next to where his brother was buried - I didn't realise he'd done that and neither did his wife until recently.

He struggled at his brother's funeral as he had to make a real effort as, obviously, funerals are outside so his agoraphobia almost overwhelmed him.

That's the thing I still clearly remember - the look of absolute terror on his face all day yet he managed it, bless him.

Gonna be a few tears shed I think next Wednesday. stevmk2

Oh Steve my condolences to you and his family. I too hate interments far worse than cremations. I hope you manage along with family to cope. God bless. Moyra xxxx
