Are'nt holidays expensive?

For various reasons we have not had a holiday for over 10 years, unless you count being retired as a holiday.
Looking online today it all seems to cost £1000 plus for even a modest self catering cottage.in dorset for a week. Am I out of touch?

BTW
we paid 19 guineas in 1972 each for 7 days in Lloret de Mer. That's about 20 quid in old money.

Robert it depends when you want to go. You should be able to get something for less than that when the schools go back in September.

Re: Are'nt holidays expensive?

Do what we do and have a look at cruising ,far cheaper than staying in he UK which now is a mugs game.

Believe me I used to be one of the most anti cruise people you could wish to meet. How wrong was I???? totally wrong but WE started out doing the River Nile cruise as a tryout. Since then try stopping me now. already booked a cruise for next year

Not only see different countries- food all day long and entertainment thrown in every night. you can find them for 7 days at well under £1000 for 2 people

Link to just one company the one we use

I enjoy 3 night weekend coach breaks and never pay more than £150 including single supplement .... but I wait for them to be discounted and don't go in July or August

You do seem to get some bargains Myrtle. Which coach companies do you go with?

Re: Are'nt holidays expensive?

Hi Carol .... I go with National Holidays ... Shearings ... Travelstyle ... and in September I'm going with David Urquhart to Melrose for £142 including single supplement for 3 nights DBB and trips out including Edinburgh

But bear in mind that I'm not bothered about posh hotels

The October trip to St Ives is with Shearings ... £144 including single supplement including a trip to Falmouth. I won't be bothering with that as I was there in February so I'll get the local train/bus to Penzance/Mousehole/Lands End, etc and the other day I'll stay in St Ives and walk a stretch of the coastal path (weather permitting of course !!)

These days Shearings only seem to do one inclusive excursion and offer an optional one to be paid for !!

Re: Are'nt holidays expensive?

Every Wednesday I get an email from a firm called 'Travelzoo' listing 20 of their best buys, holidays, short breaks, spa weekends, etc, and there are some excellent bargains among them.
