Babies names

So many childrens names seem strange these days. Also what seems strange now is calling an unborn baby by a name ,because the parents know its sex and choose a name early. Not like when I was young when an expected baby was just ' baby ' untill it was born

Re: Babies names

I just think it's nice to see the baby's face first and put a name to it that suits the face (if that makes sense).

I've never had to name a child as I don't have children but I've named many dogs and I like to see the dog and choose the name that fits the way the dog looks.

Re: Babies names

Yes you are right, the names today are very strange, I mean, fancy calling your child after a Bridge? I personally like the old fashion names like, Tom or Amy etc.

Re: Babies names

I'm not a lover of 'strange' names for children but, as pointed out to me by my son, future generations will easily find their ancestors in census etc. I guess there won't be too many people named 'Agamend Pianokeys' or 'Pocahontas McGillicuddy'!

Re: Babies names

I agree I tend to like old fashioned names but I guess like many things they will come back into fashion one day.

Re: Babies names

I've always been bemused at parents giving their child a unique name. In magazines, or the Daily Mail, I inevitably see a letter written by a parent /grandparent in which they tell a 'story' about what the child did or said. You can bet your life the child doesn't have a run of the mill name!

Re: Babies names

My son thought his name was "No" years ago. His wife who is currently pregnant calls her bump "bean".
