Oysters

For those of you that may like Oysters.
I read in todays paper that millions of oysters off the English coast are being killed off by Herpes!
Apparently the disease is due to the sea warming up.
Affected molluscs have been discovered in the River Roach, near Whitstable, Kent, so restrictions are now in place across Kent and Essex to prevent further spread.

I don't see what 'restrictions' they can apply to stop the sea warming up, do you?

'Experts' say there is no threat to humans. Hmm . . .

Apparently the sea is warming due to climate change.
You can have all the oysters, I never liked them. They look like something out of a sick persons nose. Yukkiepoo.

Re: Oysters

I like cooked Oysters - definitely not raw ones. Would cooking them kill the herpes virus? Not keen on that as an extra.

Re: Oysters

This was being discussed on the radio this morning. Firstly the disease is specific to oysters and has no implication for human health. The virus is killing the juvenile shellfish so has implications for future stocks and the livelihoods of some producers and fishermen.

I guess the answer if this continues is to move oyster farms north where the water is colder.

Re: Oysters

I am sure I could never eat an oyster, raw or cooked, they always look disgusting, the thought of swallowing something like that makes me feel sick thinking about it.
