Stop that racket!!

My neighbour fixes lawnmowers in his back garden for all and sundry and has no concept of time ...he likes to rev the petrol mowers at all hours of the day and night, now most times I dont even notice now but this morning was a particularly grating one..

Are there any noises that really grate on your nerves?

Another one for me is when motorbikes have a rough exhaust and they rev the hell out of them

Re: Stop that racket!!

Have to admit when my neighbour first moved in 1995 we thought how lovely she makes her own indian food from scratch (pounding the chapattis was distinctive) but now so many years on and she does it 3 times a day for half an hour or more the appeal has worn thin.
Also the security doors downstairs make a loud crack as they open it can be avoided by not opening it so far and holding it until it has closed, which many people do as they go out early in the morning, not so considerate though the people coming in late at night when people are trying to sleep - sounds like a gun shot when some people throw open the door.
And upstairs neighbour hoovers all hours for anything up to 3 hours at a time, her flat is same size as mine and I can hoover in less than 10 minutes so what is she hoovering

I had to giggle Cass - I just have this picture of a neighbour obsessed with a toffee hammer, going around tapping everything - poor you .............
The world has certainly got noisier and that's a rotten fact

Re: Stop that racket!!

If you have noisey neighbours there is a law in the UK
that you are not allowed to make a nuisance or large noises
between the hours of 11pm and 7am any day.
The law is on your side if its night time.
New law now is also anti social behaviour. If you are disturbing
your neighbours regularly you can see about getting a
special policeman to have a word with them or if they wont
you can report them to the Police under the new anti social act.
If the property is rented from a private landlord a new law came
out last year that any anti social behaviour by their tenants must
be stopped otherwise the landlord can be fined for having those
kind of tenants.
Think I have mentioned before about the rented house next door
to me and know this to be true.

Re: Stop that racket!!

Not sure I would want to make trouble for the neighbours just because my tolerance level is getting less. The door has a fault - council has worked on it numerous times and not managed to fix it, lady making her own food - well she is entitled to cook as she wishes not her fault the sound carries to us, only one I would like to stop is the hoovering, but not wanting to start a tit for tat situation as they have complained about us it won't help neighbourhood tension to start complaining about them.

Oh my word, I am so pleased to have good immediate neighbours but there is some lout across the road with an open exhaust either on a car or a large motorbike who tends to like to roar up and down in the evenings for a while I would love to shove a spud up his exhaust!

Re: Stop that racket!!

Dogs howling incessantly when their owners go out. The house is a few doors down and even when they are in it barks at anything.

We have contacted the council for noise pollution. When a dog barks for 5 hours solid my nerves where in shreds.

Yes dogs shouldn't bark incessantly trouble is our neighbour complained because ours yap once or twice if someone rings the door bell, and when any of us come home, they were told by the council it doesn't constitute and nuisance but they continue to post insults through the letter box.

Re: Stop that racket!!

A dog barking a couple of times Julie is acceptable, I think you have very silly neighbours, our next door neighbours dog used to bark at the post man and my gorgeous Abigail used to imitate it. It was handy if you were waiting for the post.

But a dog that barks for that amount of time it is very upsetting to hear.
