Re: Decking

Have to say I don't like it, to me it makes a place look cheap. Much rather have proper paving slabs down , but that is just my opinion

Re: Decking

The one thing you have to be careful with decking is rats, they are attracted to it.

Re: Decking

It's not too complicated, but remember that you need a foundation, or sturdy framework to support the deck itself. Like Realspeed, I don't care for it except in small quantities.

Re: Decking

It gets slippery when wet, I slipped on mine at my old house and split my head open. Won't have it again.

Re: Decking

It's to form a veranda around the static we have bought - we need to replace the steps so thought a bit of decking down the side with steps at the end might be more practical and attractive than just buying caravan steps. Safer too as we could put a gate at the end stopping the dogs getting out if they get past the front door. I agree at home we wouldn't want it but we have a large step up to the van larger than I can navigate. The van stands on a concrete slab and we wouldn't want to make it wider than that so about 4 foot by the length between the doors.

Re: Decking

I think it's a good way to gain a little extra room on a static van. Had it on a van we rented a couple of years back, looks neat and clean.
I bet someone on the site will help, Julie, they seem to help each other - once you've bought and 'belong'. My sisters site is a bit like that, anyway.

Re: Decking

I have seen it just laid on battens over the top of existing paving , not a good idea , it tends to waterlog and rot. The bearers need to be open below like a void supported at the ends and intervals to allow drainage and ventilation.

Re: Decking

Rubber mats may be the answer. even paving slabs can be slippery, I went down on brick pavement which was exceptionally slippy.
