Braemar
Been away for few days for a bit of hill walking round Braemar. The village was very quiet as the main hotel has closed tor refurbishment (for 2 years!), so no tourist coaches, and the other hotel seemed deserted too (and served terrible beer).
'The Queen's drive', where Queen Victoria and John Brown would go to visit their gamekeeper in his cottage (called Dubh Chaise - the dark place). Note snow still on hills.
View over Invercauld house from the top of the Queen's Drive.
Braemar Castle..
Memorial stone to "Col" Anne Farquarson, born in Braemar castle. She and her husband were on opposite sides during the Jacobite uprisings, but lived happily together afterwards.
And finally, the games field where the Braemar Highland gathering takes place. The small painted hut (NOT the one with the red roof - that's a ticket booth) to the middle left, is the pavilion where the Royal family sit to watch the games.
