Is this a good idea?

I saw an article today that said from next April there will be a new free Helpline to call during power cuts.

" Dialling 105 will mean people will no longer have to fumble about trying to find their electricity operator's 11-digit number by torchlight.
It follows the 2013 storms when 800,000 callers needed help in blacked-out homes.
Regulators Ofcom said the new simple number was one of the 'essentials of life.'

Seemed like a sensible idea to me. What do you think?

It does sound a good idea Mups .
I keep the Western Power number (they maintain my cables) by the phone because we get a lot of power cuts here.

I can't see why it's taken so long, and even now, we've got to wait till after next winter and probably more power cuts. You'd think an easy number would be a priority.

I guess they need to arrange linking up staff to cover the phone lines or the number could be swamped with calls.

My house phone doesn't work in a power cut as it's one of those you charge up. Hopefully people will also have mobiles!

Cell phones can't work without power either... the towers need it to send on your calls.
