Extraordinary Voice change

Anyone see the extraordinary programme on BBC1 about a poor English woman who was rushed to hospital with a very severe migraine, and woke up only able to speak with a strong Chinese accent?
It's really weird but also very interesting. She has managed to find someone else through the internet, another lady, who woke up speaking with a strong French accent!
The Chinese speaking lady has had speech therapy and brain scans to find out if there has been brain damage. Her husband is so upset because they're not fully understanding each other now, and conversations between them tend to get so fraught. The woman herself, is in tears with the frustration of it all.
What an extraordinary thing to happen, and its very sad to see the effect it's having on her, and her husband and family.

Re: Extraordinary Voice change

I would have thought it a wonderful opportunity for the husband to learn a new language and for them to do some traveling through China?

Ive recorded this because Ive heard about an earlier case, the woman involved said a lot of people just thought she was putting it on..

Its thought to be a sort of foreign language syndrome but then only the accent.. The lady I heard about woke up with a strong Russian accent..

Im looking forward to seeing this ..

Are you joking? Why would the husband want to cart a sick wife off to China after she has been so ill? She is speaking English but with a strong Chinese accent. She has no interest in China and she is desperate to return to normal.
They are both upset and frustrated because they cannot even hold a proper conversation together anymore and the man just wants his wife back.

I haven't watched the programme but it must be so frustrating for everyone involved.

It is bad enough being poorly but to wake up speaking with a strong Chinese accent. It just shows the brain is such a complex thing.

Quite fascinating.

I work in a head injury ward and the brain is indeed a complex part of the body. Always trying to recover itself, but not always possible.

How weird .. and not a little frightening to have happen to you.

Another thing I always thought weird was people who have had a transplanted organ and have allegedly taken on dietary preferences of the donor. Say .. suddenly gone vegetarian or something.
I take them with a pinch of salt myself and don't know what to believe.
