I've also heard hob nob being used when a little group of people are chatting together as in, having a hob nob, no biscuits required.

I think a nob is a also derogatory term for someone you think of an a complete idiot.

I witness people Hob Knobbing with the Toffs at Royal Ascot every year on TV, top hats for the men and those 'Creative' hats for the ladies, meanwhile I'm Hob Knobbing it with the riff raff up at the local, cheers old bean!
