Cheque Date .............

If I write a cheque and put a date a week ahead, does that mean they cannot cash that cheque 'until' that date .........
I thank you ...

Yes .... it's called a post-dated cheque ... better to warn the payee it's post-dated so they don't bank it too soon as it will "bounce" back

Re: Cheque Date .............

I would say best not to do it Patsy , it may be against the terms and Conditions of your bank I think the reason being if it is presented early and the date not spotted it can cause all sorts of problems.

Yes used to be quite common practice but not allowed by most banks these days. Best not to do it Patsy.

Re: Cheque Date .............

We receive lots of cheques daily from customers and we do not check the dates, we just bank them, so best not to do it Patsy, just to be safe.

Re: Cheque Date .............

If the cheque is a small amount the date is likely to be overlooked unless the bank needs a reason to return it anyway.
These days banks don't like us to make post dated cheques.

Re: Cheque Date .............

Some companies also state on their paperwork - 'no post dated cheques.'
