Quintinshill Rail Disaster Anniversary

Heard about this on lunchtime news, a century ago this accident killed over 200 people mostly soldiers on the way to war. Incredibly those who survived this went to fight at Gallipoli.
Ashamed to say I had never heard about it.

This was on TV last night, a man in the signal box moved the wrong lever and both trains met head on... It was terrible, bodies everywhere...

I saw this today and agree I had never heard of it. But wasn't the accident made worse by a third train smashing into the wreckage? They showed a reconstruction.

Absolutely terrible.

Re: Quintinshill Rail Disaster Anniversary

Saw the documantary about this last night. I have to be honest and say I hadnt heard about this disaster either.

It was just awful in so many respects. I have to say the thing that disgusted me most was the man interviewed who talked about the soldiers going off to a jolly good war and all..

No war is jolly, it involves killing and being killed..
Its people like him who keep getting innocent people killed by the million thinking its all a darn good show what!

Have to say I had not heard of it either-it`s on U Tube but no folk song I can find. Most of my history knowledge comes from songs.
