Children Like Reading!

More pupils 'reading for pleasure'

Increasing numbers of UK schoolchildren are choosing to read in their spare time, with six in 10 having a favourite work of fiction, research suggests.
Well that is an eye opener for me. A fightback for the written word .

There sure have been some great novels recently that appeal to children (and me) such as the Harry Potter series.

Technology obviously plays a part in this as the bottom pic shows the youngsters pointing at a Kindle (or iPad?).

Looks like reading is considered 'kewl' these days.

6 year old here can't wait to wake up in the morning to carry on reading, helps we don't do mobiles and computers for kids are limited to an hour a day.

My grandchildren love both reading and having stories read to them every night.

I am just about to buy Grimm's Fairy tales for Hannah who will be 4 in two weeks time .

Wandered up the stairs looking for Jasmine (9) calling her name , there she was sitting on the loo with a book in her hand.

She's such a book worm .

Both my grandchildren love reading books, my granddaughter's favourite author is Michel Morpurgo and she has quite a collection of his books.

My 11 year old grandaughter loves to read, always has her head in a book, like me and her Mum, but her 9 year old sister has to be held down to get her to read, she openly tells you "I hate reading"

I found with the boys we just had to find the right book to engage them one has only ever read factual books he hates stories the other loves science fiction. Just needed to tap into what they liked to set them off reading.

Well Beano it has to be perhaps get the annuals too so she has "books" TBH anything they like is fine even back of the corn flake packet can get them going.

You can get many comic book type books with all sorts of stories perhaps she may like some of the others. http://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/comic-book-style
