So proud!

In spite of not having been to the pool for several weeks (a series of colds picked up at nursery), my 15-month old grandson today swam 5m on his front and 5m on his back!

He now has both the ASA Duckling One and Puffin badges.

It helps, of course, that both me and my daughter are adult-and-baby swimming teachers!

Re: So proud!

When I was young I was very fond of swimming and as a married man I taught all 3 ofmy children to swim but only my daughter now swims regularly.

Re: So proud!

No way would you get me in water to try and swim, I can't even bear being under a shower.

Re: So proud!

Wow !!!

I'm not confident in the water so I always say I can't swim so it was a priority for me that both my children learnt to swim and also my two grandchildren are very good swimmers.

As part of the school curriculum my 8 year old granddaughter has to go swimming once a week but because she is already a competent swimmer (although she does't enjoy it !) she has been put in with the older age group ..... but what amazed me is when she told me that only a few of the children in her own age group can swim and most have to wear arm bands !

Shame on their parents for not taking them for lessons

Re: So proud!

Well done to you little grandson Deb, quite an achievement!

I'm another non swimmer we never had swimming lessons at school and there was no pool in the area where we lived years ago. I still love a paddle in the sea though

Re: So proud!

Well done that little one, bless his heart - I am petrified of water and I know I will never get any badges!
I have a 3yr old grandson that really needs to learn to swim, too.

Maybe an in the Womb experience, dictates who, like a Duck, takes to water.
