Presents. Gifts or money?

I just hate it when you ask someone what they want for their birthday and they come up with vouchers or money. How terribly boring for the giver.
I love looking for the right gift and fondly wrapping it with pretty wrapping paper.
Am I on my own enjoying this.

I have to admit I never ask because we like to hand make presents so it's no good someone saying I would like a book if I am knitting gloves

I don`t ask-what they get is what they get.

I did make Vee burst into tears the other night on the phone though. You are going to be 50-that`s a big one.

Just have a card and sod the money I let you borrow for that car. Was I showing off? I do not know-I was once very hard up so if I can now help a single mother then why not??

Try not asking Maursey - that way your enjoyment is not taken away, they will get plenty of vouchers from elsewhere ......

I always was happy to accept whatever was given as a nice gesture from the giver. Many years since ive had a present, just treat myself now when i can afford it.

Re: Presents. Gifts or money?

Everything is getting so boring nowadays with gifts, i love wrapping presents up and i would rather give than take. I love the element of the surprise that your giving to the person. But nowadays there's no fun because people have it all, it's 24-7 shopping and if you by a pressie it's aw thanks but i have one.

They do say that if you don't know what to buy someone as a gift, then you buy something they like to eat or drink. Or a gift card

Re: Presents. Gifts or money?

I never feel that I'm any good at choosing presents, and I know that when other people have bought for me, their choice is not my choice. So most times if I'm not 100% sure of what they want, then they get money instead.
That way they can put all they get into a lump sum and get something meaningful for themselves, and I'm sure they enjoy the shopping trip.
One can always put money into some kind of container to wrap up nicely if wanted.

Re: Presents. Gifts or money?

I always give money so they can buy what they like rather than receive a gift they have no use for which has always happened to me, so many toiletries I can't use that tend to get recycled.
My family are all adults now and we tend to dish out cash as we've had so many useless gifts that have been a waste of money.
