Why do we...?

...feed our cats and dogs on things they wouldn't naturally eat? When was the last time you saw a cat shrimping or tuna fishing, or your dog catching a cow?
There are too many rats and too many pigeons for us to deal with as pests. So why don't we harvest them and feed our pets with natural food. They would of course be cooked to eradicate any diseases.
This would not only solve the vermin problems but, could free up farmed meat and fish for humans making it cheaper and affordable for poor people of the World.
Is it the idea of using vermin that makes us squeamish about it? Cats and dogs would eat these animals raw if they had a choice.
If it was labelled "Nature's Bounty" or similar would you buy it?
What do you think?

years ago cats were fed on food scraps, many were wild and hunted for their food and often brought it home!

Re: Why do we...?

My dogs eat raw so cooked pigeon wouldnt be natural for them..Besides when did any pampered pooch go out and catch anything?

Raw dog meat is catagory C ie not fit for human consumption so not feeding it to the dogs wouldnt free up anything for hmans anyway.

Why not harvest Rats and other pests to feed pets, they probably do it already for all we know, they could call it “Rata-Cat-Tat”.
Just remembered what happened when they started feeding cows with other cows, the dreaded Mad Cow thing developed, very dodgy messin around with dead animal parts, maybe best left as it is, the devil you know and all that.

My darling little fella only eats Pedigree Chum I’ll have you know.

Worked with an Irish Guy some years ago, referred to his cat as the "Wee Fella", this has stuck as a reference for any Feline ever since.

I have read where insects will commonly be eaten in the future, they already are eaten in Asia.

As is the act of eating them, no doubt. To my delicate senses it's all beyond the pale.
