Have just been reading in the paper about a chap in Maldon, Essex who had a visit from environmental health saying he should not have been standing on a chair outside his restaurant to fix the fairy lights which had come loose. It took him no more than 25 secs. It seems some passer by reported it.The Council have announced they propose to take no more action. What a waste of time IMO

Totally agree Apricot. But what sort of peculiar person would see that and dash off to ring H&S in the first place? If I thought he didn't look safe, I might possible have said "you be careful" as I walked by, but I wouldn 't dream of reporting him. That is so weird.

Maybe the 'reporter' thought the man was an employee and was being put in a dangerous position by his employer!!

The oil rig I'm on will not allow me to use steps or stand on anything without a risk assessment being carried out and a permit to work in the system.
I do quite a lot of sitting about waiting for permits. not that I mind, I'm very good at it.

Maybe I should report Sheila to the H&S as she is given to standing on a stool and leaning far over to one side or the other to reach something. I keep telling her she should get down and move the stool........women !

Yes I would agree, this is likely what happened. My employer is one who will say just stand on a chair and I am one who will disagree and insist we have proper steps, not everyone will be able to do that though and we have to protect them from the employers who don't care.

No, I wouldn't waste my breathe or time reporting such a thing.

On the other hand, our orthopaedic ward gets full of folks who've fallen off chairs and broken their limbs.............
