Long-term Weather Forecasts

Apparently the Met Office is thinking again about issuing long-term forecasts
Until they can improve them, it seems like a good idea. Just stick to the seaweed

Agree - what's the point of them if they're not really very accurate? Sometimes they can't get the next days weather right!

I don't know why they give out these forecasts.

All the forecasters say that beyond a week they are almost guessing.

Did read someware dont know if it was a wind up, that they forecast a very mild winter so the Gov told the councils not to order too much salt and grit.

Re: Long-term Weather Forecasts

Sometimes if they had a window to look out of, they'd do better.

Last report we had, we expect Akron to have 2" of snow by 6pm.
It's 3pm and we already have 4" when the report came over the tv.

They were more accurate in the 60's than they are now

Re: Long-term Weather Forecasts

Well the long range forecast here for the Mid Atlantic was for a harsher than normal Winter: wrong for most of December, but spot on since.

I really only trust the reports for the next 4 - 7 days.

Re: Long-term Weather Forecasts

From an interview I heard from one of the councils they followed Govt orders to the letter and when they reordered the grit they were told they couldn't have it. Also I don't think the councils have the capacity to hold vast quantities of grit anyway.
