Chivalry Is Not Dead.

I unfortunately had a puncture in my front passenger tyre this morning.I noticed the very flat tyre on my return to the supermarket car park.I had two very kind gentlemen come to my aid(they weren't together). They changed the tyre for me,I was so grateful to them so chivarly is not dead allthough it might be moribund at times!

What nice blokes Enfys, and a stroke of luck they were around. I would have no idea how to do it myself, and would be frightened of not tightening the wheel back on properly anyway.

You were lucky Rae the last time I had a puncture (returning from the tip) I was left to struggle alone in a farm gateway.

Mups the worst part is getting the wheel off .The nuts are usually tightened up with a machine these days and are screwed on really tightly.

Re: Chivalry Is Not Dead.

I'll tell a story loosely connected to this.

Years ago, the local council started this education scheme. Oversimplified, if 5 people could be found to learn a particular subject, then they would finance it at the local night school.

A female friend was telling me that she would like to learn basic car maintainance. Checking oil, swapping tyres, thing like that. Several other girls expressed the same interest, so the council was approached. They turned it down, because it was aimed only at women!

There was a happy ending when a local driving school ran the course - for free! The way I see things, if these courses were common, then perhaps everyone would be able to do these tasks - including some men!

Edit: As well as having the confidence to do them.

Although I've had several punctures, I've never changed a tyre in my life because some kind gentleman has always turned and changed it for me! The trick is to hitch your skirt up a notch or two and stand by your car looking helpless!

..somtimes knowing how to do something is not enough , brute strength is required to get the blessed wheel off

I now call the RAC , wheel changing is all part of breakdown insurance .
