Stairs

Just think how much we owe to the person who invented stairs life would be so difficult without them. Imagine having to navigate extremely steep slopes in our own homes and whilst out and about without the benefit of a flight of stairs. Imagine too how much safer mountains, including Everest, would be if there was stairs right to the summit.

These mundane low tech devices we all use daily go unappreciated it is time we recognised the people of the dim and distant past who left behind their useful and enduring legacies.

Re: Stairs

While I agree I do have a little swear occasionally when I am coming up ours for the umpteenth time that day. Especially when one of the dogs have tummy troubles then I no sooner get up them than I am dashing back down again.

Julie One must recognise these everyday devices for the convenience they provide.

Re: Stairs

I moved here to get away from stairs - oh if only I'd known, I'd have put up with the stairs !

Re: Stairs

I miss the stairs! - a bungalow has none, obviously, I think they help with my general fitness, I do have some where I work and use them for an extra bit of exercise..

Re: Stairs

After living in the last house, a bungalow on the mainland, if I left my specs on the bed and was in the kitchen, it was 75x2 steps to retrieve them.
One point is the infinite variations that have emerged during the years. From a vine to climb back into the cave to broad sweeping stairs of the '30's films mansions. Wood, stone, brick cast iron and so on.

We live in a house now, and the stairs are much better for exercise than yards of bungalow.

Re: Stairs

I’m with you all the way about stairs VM, just look at the sheer simplicity of a spiral staircase, simple but highly effective. And spare a thought for the humble ladder, for without it we would have no roofs over our heads.
