Who were they ?

We have for 'Pete's' sake - well who was he ?
We have - living the life of 'Riley' - who he ?
Funny how these sayings come about and they are used to this day - maybe not so often now .......
Who else has their name in phrases .........?

Pete I believe was St Peter so a bit like for god's sake blasphemy.

The life of riley was an American radio show in the 30's 40's and I think that is where the saying comes from.

Doubting Thomas again a bible reference

Two ton Tessie however I am not sure who she was ?
