After 50+ years of collecting...

Christmas decorations and buying more tree lights than I care to admit to, I still get tempted to buy more new ones. Do you still spend money on new bits and pieces even though you have enough to start your own shop?

I chuck the decorations out every few years and buy new ones. We only have a few these days.

We mainly have a home made Christmas so I could no more throw a decoration out than fly to the moon, they all have so many memories attached to them.

I am not in the least bit sentimental about possessions, and have kept very little from the past, unless it is valuable, which some of the stuff is. Those will be passed down to the kids if they want them, if not they can sell them.

My most treasured possessions are home made bits and bobs made by the kids, whole new lot arriving these days with Grace here with us, big album of their childhood paintings in the side board we get out occasionally to embarrass them.

We've got Christmas decorations going back to at least 50 years ago.

Yes. I too have decorations going back a long time. Some made by my children and grandchildren. Every fond memory renewed each time I decorate the tree. Lovely.

I'm with you Alan. Some of ours were made by our sons too when they were tiny. They are Grandads now so their kids can see what their Dads were doing back then. So many memories come out of the loft at Christmas time.

Re: After 50+ years of collecting...

My kids were offered things from their childhood, before I got rid of them, some they kept but most were either thrown away or donated to a charity shop. I have a small bag of stuff I will keep, just in case the kids ever decide they would like them after all. I do have hundreds of family photos though, some going back to the dawn of photography. My grandson (12) has promised to catalogue them for posterity sometime.

Re: After 50+ years of collecting...

I don't have Christmas decorations we always used to go and stay with my family at Christmas for a week so there seemed little point.

Now I stay at home I still don't bother, I hate mess and disruption.
