RIP Wayne Goss

The reforming Premier of Queensland Wayne Goss has just died aged 63.

He was the one that finally defeated the appalling and corrupt Joh Bjelke-Petersen and the Liberal party gerrymander in Queensland.

Blimey Bruce. You seem to be having a few deaths over there
of your Politicians. Don't know Wayne but had heard of course of
Gough Whitlam. RIP

He was in the same mould as Gough perhaps not as great but a charismatic leader. It was Gough Whitlam's dismissal that made him join the Labor Party

Died from brain cancer and has been ill for some time.

Under his government Queensland's infamous electoral gerrymandering was abolished; prostitution was decriminalised; homosexuality was legalised; the notorious Queensland Police "Special Squad" was disbanded; a raft of environmental reforms were enacted and special places such as Cooloola and the Conondale Range were protected; gun laws were tightened for the first time in Queensland; the Bjelke-Petersen ban on street marches was lifted; funding for the arts was boosted substantially. The list goes on.
