Re: Fiat 500 Problem

According to the reviews the Fiat 500 with the 1.2 engine struggles on steep hills, it is only 68 BHP.

I am trying to work out the connection with a Fiat500 to Current affairs and Politics.

I'm thinking that seacroft saw this on Watchdog last night, and may have an interest.

Just goes to show, like many things in life, you can't have it all ways, you can't have 100 MPG and 200 BHP, not in a standard road going car anyway.

Re: Fiat 500 Problem

There is a very steep hill when heading south out of Lerwick and I was often behind a car that was going slowly up the hill. I just wondered why they didn't gear down to keep their speed up.

It was only when I hired a van that I realised it didn't make any difference. Some vehicles just don't have the power to easily get up steep hills.

Re: Fiat 500 Problem

Fiat has now acknowledged according to Watchdog that this model has problems tests carried out seem to show going up steep hills reqs 1st gear and 3000 revs!!.
This was the wrong social media site I regret to post a motor car problem as it seems not to have a dedicated section and therefore the responses were few.

Re: Fiat 500 Problem

The engine that is used in the 1.2 is part of the "FIRE" engine family. This engine has been around since the 1980's and has, in different forms, been the power plant in many different cars. Not only Fiats, but Alfa Romeos even some Jeeps...

Travel down to some of the more mountainous regions of Italy, and you will notice that the 500's are one of the cars of choice for these areas. Despite the hlls that they have there.

Fiat at one point did deny that there was a problem, and I actually believe they were correct to do so. The fault lies with the idiots that came up with this Euro 6 standard...these engines are so restricted, not only Fiats will be affected. Theres a small Skoda that is a Euro 6. That has 10 bhp less than the Fiat, less torque, and mre weight. Now theres a recipe for not being able to climb hills. Its part of VW though, so nobody will complain!
