Top tip. Oven Bags

I recently paid to have my oven cleaned. it is now like new. Reason was, the top part inside the oven is a fixture so I am not able to remove to clean it.
Anyway I bought sheets of oven paper to protect it and now place all my food I cook in the oven, into oven bags. They are great.
I didn't realize they also brown your food in them and at
99p for ten bags in Aldi it's so worth it. Ebay also do good deals.
No pans to wash. It keeps the flavour in and saves all the meat juices for gravy. Also stops the smell of cooking fish, and the oven stays spotless.

Thanks for the tip. I hate oven cleaning but have never used oven bags as I thought the food would steam in them and not brown. When I shop today I will buy a pack and give them a try, that is after I've cleaned the oven.

You leave a gap when you tie them up so the steam escapes,

they do work well and save washing up too. Can't for the life of me think why I stopped using them

I use them occasionally, but if they're the ones I'm thinking about, their size limits what can be cooked in them. I mostly use them for chicken joints and add various herbs & spices to flavour them. I seal the bag completely to retain the juices, but you have to be very careful when opening it.

We find it's only the base of the main oven that needs cleaned using a foam oven cleaner.

Ah that's the reason, as family grew we couldn't get big enough bags, I use a chicken roaster and a tagine, and also a lidded pyrex bowl all stop splashes and can be used in a variety of ways.

Around Christmas time you can get the larger roasting bags suitable for a turkey.
I like roasting my meat and chicken in them, the size chicken I get just fits in a normal bag, with all meat I cut a corner off to let steam escape, with the chicken i also make a slit nearer the tied end too.

I very rarely use my large oven, preferring my counter top mini one. When I did switch it on once it was so dirty and smoky it fused the electrics. So I had to clean it!

Not used it since.

I only use my mini oven too ... it's more economical than using the full size one
