Confidence

I was at our church harvest festival service this morning and had invited a friend and her daughter to join me. Mimi (the daughter)got talking to some other girls over the buffet lunch. One girl(15?) was extremely attractive and clearly well educated-and she knew it but not in an arrogant way.

I thought to myself -you are going a long way in this world and maybe break a couple of hearts on the journey.

Re: Confidence

Who knows what future she has in front of her. Only time will tell. Not every well educated person gets the right job they want. If she's a nice person then hopefully she'll not break too many hearts!

Re: Confidence

Confidence is a great asset to have, over confidence is not - its not always an asset to be a good looking woman, that has a lot of problems along the way too - life is difficult no matter how you look so everyone needs that 'bit' of confidence .......

Re: Confidence

OG I think at our stage in life we can look at the younger generation and try and suss them out . Great that she seems a nice girl and confident. Nothing worse than arrogance and snobbiness in someone. I really hope she does well.

It's funny, but when we were away with our walking group last weekend, there were a few young waiting staff in the restaurant. One of our ramblers, in her 80's, said "they prance about like they know it all. "Oh, I'm only a waiter/waitress here, but I'll have you know I'm at uni". She said "aye right, you think you're the bees knees and we're thick" lol. She really made me laugh. She's probably true though It's just a sign of the times. They have privileges some of us didn't have.

Re: Confidence

Maybe it was just a sign of being young and having your life ahead. When we were 18 we though we knew what life was all about and that we knew which way we were heading, but life rarely turns out the way we expect when we are young. A lot of difficulty and sorrow can lie ahead and that is as true today as it was in the past.
Young people may go to university more than previous generations but there is often not a lot to be had at the end of it other than a big debt. Jobs are hard to come by and a degree doesn't mean a good wage any more.
Confidence does count for a lot though but there is a fine line between confidence and brashness which is not so attractive in a person.

...or she could be pregnant at 16, married and living in a council flat at 17. Who can tell?
