New car...

I just been and ordered my new second hand car , my old one is turning into a money pit , I've spent so much on it this year, fix one fault then another fault appears, the latest is a worrying gear box noise ...I cant complain though , it has serves me well over the last 6 1/2 years and it is now nearly 14 yrs old ..
my 'new one' is only 8 years old... but a lot cheaper to run ....its a bit bigger so it will accommodate my mum and dad easier...
ohh forgot to say , my mum is buying it for me ...thank you mummy...

Re: New car...

Steve, I am so pleased for you. It's not too long ago when you were telling us that you couldn't get a job and was having trouble paying your mortgage/rent, etc, and caring for your disabled son, so I'm so glad that things are looking up for you now and that you have now found a well paid job after all this time. I haven't kept up with the forum for a bit so didn't realise that you were now financially secure. Good on you.

A Ford Mondeo Ghia will be an expensive car to run. A new one would cost around £18,000, and an 8 year old one would surely cost at least £8000. Why go for a two litre car though? That's just a gas guzzler and will cost a fortune in tax and insurance, despite its age. I know your mum has bought you the car, but what about the running costs?

A small 980 cc car with a £20 or no car tax and minimum insurance would make more sense

Have you won on the lottery and not told us?

At least you're not falling for the English habit of buying ludicrously underpowered cars. For a family car 2 Litre should be the minimum capacity it's a false economy getting less.

Used to drive me up the wall driving in the UK at every hill everyone slowed down going up and speeded up down the other side.

Re: New car...

Mum and Dad had a Mondeo and they loved it! Unfortunately some arseh*** drove into it while it was parked near their home and the insurance company said it was beyond repair. By that time Dad had died, so Mum had to find something else, and got a smaller car. She was gutted at losing it as it was a part of Dad, and was a great car.

Hope you enjoys yours, Steve. Thumbs up to your Mum for buying it.

Macho men don't do small cars - didn't you know that Mollie?

(Well that's what my son tells me - he's got a car like Steve's new one - very nice it is too)
