Dentures ...

My friend have to have his dentures repairs ... they have a
crack in them ..
I was shocked he told me that .. I had never ever heard of
anyone dentures cracking unless .. they had an accident
such as falling or something hitting them in the mouth ...
He told me they don't last for over 5 years ...
My brother had his for 50 years and never replace them ...
but I am not 100%sure of that ..maybe he did .. and I had never heard about it ....

Re: Dentures ...

They can break Sugar as the force needed to eat breaks them at their
weakest point. Surprised your Bros teeth lasted 50 years as your
mouth and gum shape changes with age so they probably wont fit
you all those years after being fitted with them. Probably like a lot
of people who have dentures they can eat without them in as they
harden their gums with eating. Unlike the advert for false teeth
and the glue you put on them it is very hard indeed to crunch into
a apple. Not everyone can do that.

Re: Dentures ...

I wear a partial (upper) and I have a brand new one now because the worst thing imaginable happened to me...

My friend and I were eating in a restaurant. We both got burgers. About halfway through mine, I bit down into it and *snap*, the two front teeth broke off. So here I am, trying not to be too obvious, feeling around in my mouth with my tongue for the two teeth that were swimming amongst my mouthful of food, so I could reach in and pull them out. And let me tell you, there is no casual, elegant way to do that.

Needless to say I had to function through my daily routine for a while until I could get to the dentist and have a new partial made, which I also had to wait for once my impressions were sent off to the 'denture lab'. So I went to the drug store and bought a denture repair kit and it did a well enough job of keeping the teeth glued together, but I couldn't eat anything that I had to bite down into and ate only soft foods for a while because I didn't have the denture power to eat stuff that had to be chewed.

The reason the teeth broke off is because there was a crack in the top of the denture that got worse every time I put pressure on it until that awful day in the restaurant when it finally gave way.

They don't make anything like they used to.
