Breeding success.

A new species has been added to the breeding species of Northumberland, Little Egret. Its not that long ago that twitchers would be happy to encounter one of these elegant members of the Heron family.

Grey Heron and Little Egret.

Black-headed gull and Little Egret, this shows how small they are.

Yellow feet are a good ID feature.

Re: Breeding success.

Lovely photos. We have very many Little Egrets around here, often seen riding on the backs of sheep.

We seem to get a lot of Heron around here but I don't think I have seen an Egret before

Re: Breeding success.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Its good to see new species becoming established but its a trade off, we have lost Turtle Doves and Corn Buntings up here.

Many more species are in decline, due to habitat loss and climate change, or in the case of Birds of Prey persecuted by Gamekeepers or Eggers
