Cat!

I gave in and let my daughter have a kitten in the house about 16 months ago, despite me being allergic and I don't like animals. I gave in because she was with a horrible controlling boyfriend and she seemed to be getting broody so I thought better a cat than a baby. Now she has got rid of the boyfriend and is building her self esteem and getting her life all sorted out. She's lost a lot of weight and is focused on leading a healthy life, getting out and socializing instead of sitting indoors eating takeaways. The problem is the cat.....he has destroyed furniture door frames wallpaper and now seems to want to do his toileting on the rug in my daughter's bedroom I threw this out and cleaned the carpet......now he is doing it on the carpet. I'm at me wit's end I feel like getting rid of the cat. I've spoken to my daughter about it and she says she's saving for a flat, she has a good job and earns better money than I do. I bought a huge scratching tower/play centre ages ago for him but he still uses the furniture for scratching I hadn't realized until I moved the leather sofa today just how badly he has scratched it, it's completely ruined. I take pride in my home and like to have nice things and to take care of them. I'm so angry and I don't know what to do maybe some advise from people on this forum could help me.

Re: Cat!

Hello Tess - I've never had a cat, so not fit to advise, only to say, if your daughter is looking for a flat now and beginning to socialise more - it would seem a good time to have the cat rehomed.
There is probably a cat shelter near you - might be worth a look ........

Re: Cat!

Tess - there is a 'cat repellent' spray you can buy to spray anywhere you do not want the cat to scratch. It does not harm your furniture and humans cannot smell it.

Cats are normally such clean creatures that I do not understand why he is soiling carpets. Has he been neutered? Does he have a litter box that is cleaned regularly ? Maybe a trip to the vet for a check up would be good.

Re: Cat!

He has been neutered as for cleaning out the litter tray how regular is regular? I have no idea. I would say she used to buy a type of cat litter which she is unable to find any where now, it was inexpensive.....I think he might be confused...as she has tried different types but none seem to work like the type he had before.......you'd think he would get over it......such a diva.....bloody cat!

Re: Cat!

The minimum you should clean the litter tray is every day and preferrably more often . I use Tesco everyday value ligthweight cat litter . It's cheap and really good .

Re: Cat!

Well Tess, we clean our Cat's tray out every time she uses it, because Cat's don't like to go to the toilet in a soiled tray, so its wise to clean it every time.

We buy Catsan from Sainsbury's its about £4.00, every time your Cat goes wee wee, it clamps it, so all you need to do, is tip the tray to one side and the wee wee should be clamped into a ball, easy for you to pick up with tissue paper.
