Andropause

Is it time that this was officially recognised?

Re: Andropause

I've wondered about this too PP. Although my OH is still in the " You know what dept" he does tend to get mood swings and more tired then usual not to mention headaches. He's not anaemic and no thyroid problems so I put it down to his age.

Re: Andropause

I think it is a real phenomenon and should be researched

Re: Andropause

I didn't even know it existed! Anyway took the quiz on andropause.com and here's my results:

Every person is different. And not all men going through this stage of life will experience it exactly the same way. The passage into middle age is a complicated phase. It's full of changes at all levels - personal, social, economic, family, etc. It may therefore be difficult to differentiate your changes from the symptoms of other conditions, unrelated to andropause.

Nevertheless, you did answer, "YES" to Question #1 or Question #7, or to any other three questions. Therefore it would be worthwhile to discuss these symptoms with your physician. He or she may have your ‘bioavailable’ testosterone level checked through a simple blood test.

Don’t forget to print this quiz and take it with you when you visit your physician.
Q1 was: Do you have a decrease in strength and/or endurance?
Q7 was: Have you noticed a recent deterioration in your ability to play sports?

I think both of those are probably because I'm sat at a computer all day now and not as active as I used to be in other jobs :-/

Re: Andropause

I don't know.
There's certainly nothing as obvious as the female 'change' and I would tend to the view that much of it 'is all in the mind'.
I am fortunate in having a husband who has always been fit, still referees rugby every Saturday (and any other day he can sneak off) and receives plaudits from junior and colts teams for his fitness. He has also taken to going to the gym and is actually in pretty good shape - he's even getting pecs!
If you think old, you easily become old
Age is just a number - if you are fortunate enough to have good health, enjoy it - this is it, not a dress rehearsal

Re: Andropause

I'm not sure, wonder how much is in the mind and how much is just the natural process of aging.I will say that when I worked in an endocrinologist's office, I was quite surprised at the number of late middle aged men who came in for testosterone shots!
