Isn't it strange ...

.. how the smallest of things can suddenly hit you like a truck?

I was a Roman Catholic until I was 14yrs old and always sang in the choir for 11:00am Mass. Left RC for various reasons and have not given it a great deal of thought since then - but - have just been watching "Thorn Birds" on DVD and there was a scene where Father de Bricassart walks into a Sidney church and the choir were singing 'Panis Angelicus'. Suddenly I was 12/13yrs old again I could smell the incense and hear the Eucharist bells - and I was weeping!!

Have watched that film dozens of times - usually lusting after Richard Chamberlain - and it has never had that effect before.

Must be the hot weather addling my brain!

I often find that I react that way to music. It can be so evocative.

Music can make me feel very emotional. In recent years its been some of Adelle's songs.

On the other hand "happy" by Pharrel Williams gives me goosebumps. I love it!!

Only Time by Enya has that effect on me. It was played on the newcasts here over and over during the World Trade Center bombings.

Re: Isn't it strange ...

Having been brought up in a staunch presbyterian family, church worship was a basic affair, even communion was viewed with suspicion. The only thing I remember was that if there was a christening, the choir sang "By cool Siloam's shady rill." I thought this was hymn 319 in the Church Hymnal, but I could be wrong.

Anyway, by my teens I had given up on religion.

It is indeed ST , it can be a scent, a sound or a picture
that can transport us back through the years...
