Child abuse

How many of us have been there? I`m not talking my parents(he was a vile piece of shit and thank God emotional abuse as well as physical abuse is now recognised) I`m going back to the 60s when my girl friend`s father used to try to `touch me up` I was not alone as my mates started to tell similar stories-but who would believe us?

Looking back now I do wonder if the house he bought right next to a primary school was a co-incedence? Back then nobody believed it was possible-just naughty little boys trying to cause trouble.

I agree it can shape the rest of your life. 5 when it started with me and I look at my little grand niece and wonder how anyone could be so cruel to such a young child.....

Sometimes I get very tearful just seeing a child on TV and hoping they never go through it .......

Re: Child abuse

Thankfully it was nothing to do with my lovely mum and dad. There's still a huge stigma attached to it. I often wonder how I'd be as a person if it hadn't happened. I've wondered what its like to have grown up without that experience. Wish I knew.

Re: Child abuse

One of the saddest things about being male is that I can walk up to a dog outside a supermarket and stroke him/her(not that I condone leaving dogs)
and folk may think what a nice man giving that dog a cuddle. If I to get within 5 yards of a crying child I`m looking around for help

I know it's hard isn't it, my husband says he felt "watched" when he went to get our grand niece from school, I go and no one bothers much, but he goes and he feels uncomfortable. So sad really.

It is sad - but the way things are - I'd rather people were that cautious ....

Re: Child abuse

If I saw a crying child I'd want to comfort them - but would I? No, I'd be afraid it would be misinterpreted. Sad state of affairs, really. I had a very loving and warm childhood considering there were four of us for it to go around!!! Really feel for those not so lucky.....and I hate child abuse with a passion!!! and child abusers more so!
