A pleasure and a privilege.

Just watched a Lancaster and a Spitfire from the Battle of Britain memorial flight turning to make two of their three passes over the city.

A pleasure to see such beautiful aircraft and to remember the men who originally flew them. A privilege to be able to stand here and enjoy the freedom for which so many fought and died.

Re: A pleasure and a privilege.

I'm like a big kid when I see these aircraft!

I made all of the airfix models of the well-known RAF and RN planes and knew them all by sight, including the German planes.
I even got to know the USAAF planes and I still get a bit of a thrill to see these aircraft still flying in the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight or elsewhere.

I used to know them by their distinctive engine noises but, sadly I can't tell the difference anymore and I can't tell the Rolls Royce Merlin engine from anything else now!

We get them flying over us to fly over Bletchley Park - about a mile away as the crow flies - or the Spitfire! stevmk2

We are fortunate in being able to see 'the flight' almost every time it's airborne .

But no matter how many times I them, they still make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

It was wonderful. The Lancaster engines have quite a distinctive roar - you can hear them coming long before you see them.
