A bit Sheep-ish

Forget Picasso's Blue Period - I had bit of a Sheep-ish Phase...

Re: A bit Sheep-ish

The first painting brought back some good memories!
I'm originally from NZ, and my first serious boyfriend lived on a farm. I remember helping with the mustering, but the sheep were never as orderly as the ones in the painting. All it took was for one of them to go off track a wee bit, and the rest would follow. Much like some people I guess!
I really like your sheep-ish phase!

Re: A bit Sheep-ish

Here in Wales, we have umpteen thousands of them. It is difficult at times to keep them out of the garden - they eat everything.!!!

I particularly liked the second painting - they do have that sort of forlorn look about them. Well captured.

Re: A bit Sheep-ish

Thanks Eliza LMB Julie and Hanfonius.

The sheep are from the Basque country in the Pyrenees, (except the last one of the sheep and the goat which was more local) where they gave a local festival every year dedicated to all things sheepy, and to shepherding. The Basque produces some great sheep's milk cheese, mmmm yum!

Excellent set of paintings, something ive tried but had to accept i have no talent for. For me i like the first as its reminiscent of scenes in my local hills the Cheviots.

I like them too! No sheep or goats in my area.

Nom, I know this sounds very old-fashioned but anybody can paint providing they can sit alongside somebody who can. There are no magical skills, and nobody is born with an inbuilt talent.

Just paint to please yourself. With a nice white sheet of paper, put on a layer of pale blue at the top for the sky. Then, while it is still wet, drop in some water, or perhaps wet white paint - and watch as the clouds form themselves.

Painting is so therapeutic, and so rewarding. You will never manage a Mona Lisa, but you can certainly paint a pleasing countryside scene. Are there perhaps any night school classes close to you?

I do draw, love sketching usually from my photographs of birds, i tried watercolours and struggled. To be fair im very self critical. Joined an art club once but could not bear to have people looking over my shoulder, bit of a lone wolf these days.I did start a thread on sketching just for fun, soon turned into a bit of a critique thread, not for me.
