Why Is That There?

Sometimes I'll see on the rear bumper of a car, truck or trailer, a strip of rope dragging along the ground. Sometimes its a fringe. Its not even a rope, more like a flat strip of some kind of material.

Re: Why Is That There?

I remember wondering what the thing hanging out of the back of cars was for, then there was the coloured strips of border at the front back and sides of trucks, they vanished too, along with the whizz kids who dreamed up the crazy get rich quick ideas at the time.

Re: Why Is That There?

They are anti static strips, they are supposed to prevent static electricity building up in cars, but most of them are useless anyway because they don't even touch the ground, and need to do to complete the circuit.

Thanks Jimmy. Would that mean if we put a strip under our car & made sure it touched the ground, would we stop getting shocks off the car at dry times of the year? It's really annoying.
