What mama said?

Last evening I was having a sandwich for supper, and without thinking, I was leaving the crusts on my plate, and I could hear my mum "you will never have curly hair, if you do not eat your crusts". And I started to think of other similar sayings. "Someone slept in the knife drawer" or, "you are too sharp, be careful you do not cut yourself", if I gave a smart Alec response.

I am sure there are dozens, so come on ladies and gents, what things did your mama say?

I was always told the curly hair one too, Daisy.
Also "if you don't eat your peas you won't be able to whistle."
Then if I pulled an ugly face "Careful the wind might change and you will stay that way."

Never heard the pea one, but yes, the wind changing one was another.

"Wipe that look off your face." Of course, she said it in such a way I knew I was about to die if I didn't do so immediately.

Re: What mama said?

I´ve never heard the pea one either. If my mother thought I was being less than honest about something she would say "I can see the green in your eyes", which meant she always knew I wasn´t being honest. I used to go and look in the mirror to see if I could see the green, but I never could and never understood how my mother could.

My mother used to say to me when I had been naughty..''Wait till your father gets home!'''

My father used to come home..listen to her and then do absolutely nothing..

I think mine did continue, but I have some memory loss attributable to stark terror.

But the sheer terror you felt whilst waiting for him was more than enough punishment huh?
