What's the difference between a Street and a Road?

What's the difference between a Street and a Road? I asked that in the pub and someone said a Street has houses on it and a Road hasn't, well I live on a Road and it's full of houses. I have to put on my address "Jem, 104 Acacia Road, Dublin 8"

A road is "long and winding" and a street has a "sunny side" of course!

How do you do "this" Honey? I've seen it before instead of the actual URL & it works, golly....it really does work!

Sorry darlin' - but that definition is rubbish!!! - I live in a ROAD which is about 200 yards long in its entirety and doesn't connect two distinct communities. Likewise, since the road runs broadly East-West - both sides of the road receive sun at various times of the day.

Re: What's the difference between a Street and a Road?

Maybe a British definition would make more sense?

Like UJ, I too live in a road. It's short, and connects another road, (which in turn connects two other roads), and my allotments site. So what should it be called? Not even a street, methinks.

So I'm still none the wiser on this one.
