Our Political System

It took our wonderful Milton Keynes Unitary Council until late last night to actually declare the 2014 Election Results and at least we no longer have the LibDem coven in place but still No Overall Control either - been like that for years now.

I know it's the system but the annoying thing is that UKIP actually polled the 2nd highest number of votes after Labour yet they only get 1 seat.

I know that this has been discussed before but it does seem odd really that a party that get something like 26% of the vote, (my estimate), only get one seat out of the 57 available!

That effectively means that those people that voted UKIP are still stuck with one of the candidates from the three main parties when they'd rather have UKIP speaking for them.

The actual vote count leaves the LibDems with the least number of votes - behind the Conservatives yet both retain quite a strong presence.

A good case for proportional representation again yet that's no longer bandied around is it - yet? stevmk2

Its time it changed, I'm surprised the smaller parties don't demand change

For what purpose? The status quo is in the interests of the two major parties so they will always override them, it needs a major push from the voters for it even to be considered.

Bombard your MP and the newspapers with letters

Voters need a push in the right direction and need to be told the wrongs of it. You give to much credit to voters, they are not all smart - unfortunately.

You're right about that but given the way our education system has failed them, the media have brainwashed them, and people in the legal system have exploited them, it's hardly surprising.

The way you put it sounds almost like a deliberate policy Losos.

Surely not?!

I'm beginning to wonder myself though stevmk2
