Chemists are the same as Pharmacists?

Am I right that your 'chemist' is our 'pharmacist'? The person who dispenses your prescriptions.
I've seen chemists in threads & wondered.

Same with people saying they're going to surgery but don't talk about 'having' surgery. Do you mean the doctor's office?

Sort of ...... the chemists is the shop where the pharmacist works.

The surgery is where the GP (general practitioner or doctor) works.

we don't say the doctor's office, it's always the surgery. The chemist is a pharmacy shop which can sell over the counter medicines that are non prescribed

Yep, that is it exactly.

A Chemist as an occupation is not necessarily a Pharmacist.


Here a doctor's surgery is just as likely to be called a GP's or General 'Practice' (as you know practice makes perfect )

Just to confuse the issue my doctors surgery has a dispensary with a pharmacist dispensing but it is not a chemists


A 'chemists shop' often has a pharmacist dispensing but it also sells goods like make up and toiletries .
In the case of 'Boots' the chemist it sells a whole lot more too.
